Yeamans: Rock performs "quite well" in Clarion Fall Classic
Rock head coach Jim Yeamans said he was impressed with his team's efforts, which resulted in a fifth-place finish, in the three-day meet
CLARION, Pa. -- The Rock did not record a lot of high finishes in the season-opening Fall Classic competition hosted Friday through Sunday by Clarion University, but SRU head coach Jim Yeamans was still happy with his team's performance.

"The team performed quite well, especially the new swimmers who were in their first collegiate meet," he said. "I was very impressed; we had a great team performance."

As a unit, The Rock placed fifth out of six teams with 99 points. Grove City won the women's team title with 833.5 points, followed by Clarion with 586.5, Westminster 174, Lock Haven 143, The Rock and Frostburg State (md.) with 76.

The top finishes for The Rock were a pair of fifths, one in individual competition and one in a relay event; two sixths, one each in individual and relay events, and a pair of seventh-place relay efforts.

The team of freshmen Amanda Lancki and Merideth Grusek, senior Lauren Hervatin and junior Raquel Woerner placed fifth in the meet's opening event, the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet recorded a time of 4:30.10.

That same foursome finished seventh in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.67 and garnered a No. 7 finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.64.

Lancki, Hervatin and Woerner joined with senior Betsy Wilson to place sixth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:01.24.

In individual events, Lancki placed fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.07; Hervatin was sixth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.23

In diving  competition Sunday, sophomore Maureen Moran placed 11th and freshman Erin Prager finished 12th with scores of 156.6 and 128.5, respectively.

Sophomore Kaitlin Kaulius placed 11th in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 20:45.30 and was 12th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.93.
