WALNUT, Calif. -- Rock sprinter
Brad Mueller finished third in Saturday's 100-meter dash finals at the NCAA Division II national championships with a school-record time of 10.29 seconds.
Mueller, the reigning indoor 60-meter dash national champion at 60 meters, finished only 8/100ths of a second behind national champion Dennis Boone of St. Augustine's (10.21) in Saturday's 100m final. Kawayne Fisher of Lincoln finished second with a 10.26 time.
Mueller's time in the finals represented an improvement of 25/100ths of a second over his 10.54 time in Thursday's preliminary heat, which was the seventh best qualifying time for Saturday's final.
His time Saturday trimmed 18/100ths of a second off his previous school-record time set May 3 at the Pennsvlvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Indiana U. of Pa.
The third-place national finish earned Mueller his second U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America citation of the season.
Mueller was one of three Rock male student-athletes who competed Saturday in final-day action of the three-day national championship meet.
Pat Reagan placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run finals with a time of 14:40.79 and
Nate Hardic finished 13th in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 192-9.
Reagan placed 13th in the 10,000-meter run Thursday with a time of 30:38.20.
As a team, The Rock finished 34th in the final national championship standings with six points, all of which came via Mueller's third-place finish.
Abilene Christian won the team championship with 108.5 points.
