LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Rock All-America high jumper Whitney Hendershot and SRU head coach John Papa were each named Thursday as recipients of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors.

Hendershot was named as the women's "Rookie of the Year," while Papa received both the men's and women's "Coach of the Year" honors.

Hendershot placed fourth in the high jump competition at the NCAA Division II national meet in Walnut, Calif., to earn the second U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America citation of her career.

She was also named as the PSAC indoor track and field "Rookie of the Year" after she earned her first All-America honor with a fifth-place at the national championships in March in Mankato, Minn.

Papa earned his 13th and 14th PSAC Coach of the Year honors when he guided The Rock women to their third consecutive PSAC team title and the Green and White men to their first conference title since 2000. He also tutored eight student-athletes who competed in the NCAA national championships.

The outdoor conference titles came on the heels of SRU winning the men's team title and sharing the women's team title in the 2008 PSAC indoor championships.

All told, Papa-coached Rock track and field teams have won five straight PSAC team titles.
