Jeremy Deighton was named to first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors Thursday in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America

Jeremy Deighton was named to first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors as voted on and released by the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday evening.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor is the second for Deighton, who earned second team honors in 2008.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must possess a minimum grade point average of 3.30 and have significant athletic credentials.
Deighton, a senior forward from Broadview Heights, Ohio, was one of only two players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference to earn first team honors. Toric Robinson, a midfielder from East Stroudsburg, was the other.
Deighton, the reigning PSAC-Western Division Player of the Year, leads The Rock and the conference in scoring this season with 16 goals and five assists. He also leads the PSAC in game-winning goals with eight.
For his career, Deighton has registered 100 points on 42 goals and 16 assists and has led the team in scoring in each of his four years. He ranks fifth all-time in scoring and in goals at Slippery Rock and 11th all-time in assists.
Deighton has led The Rock to a 15-3 overall record this season and its fourth PSAC playoff berth in the last five seasons.
Slippery Rock will close the regular season with a 12 p.m. conference match this Saturday when Gannon travels to Thompson Stadium. The Rock will open the PSAC playoffs Wednesday at Mercyhurst. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Nov. 9. The Rock is currently ranked second in the Atlantic Region. The top four teams in each region qualify for the tournament.
Deighton, by way of his first team All-District honor, will now advance to the ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
