Meet Schedule and Live Updates
KENT, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will open their 2009-10 seasons Friday and Saturday at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala. Live results will be available throughout the two-day competition.
Competition is scheduled to open in the pentathlon and heptathlon, as well as select field events and the 5,000-meter run, on Friday afternoon. The bulk of the meet will be contested Saturday, with the first event scheduled for 10 a.m. and the final event scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The Rock track and field programs will enter the 2009-10 season looking to continue on a tradition of excellence established at Slippery Rock under 23rd year head coach John Papa. Papa has led Slippery Rock’s women’s track and field team to each of the last three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships during the indoor season and each of the last four titles in the outdoor season. The Rock men swept the indoor and outdoor titles in 2008 and will look to move back up the conference standings this season.
Slippery Rock will compete just once before the holiday break and will return to action with a home meet on Jan. 22. The indoor season includes eight meets before the PSAC Championships, which will be held at Edinboro’s new indoor facility for the first time on the weekend of Feb. 27-28. The indoor season concludes Mar. 12-13 at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Last season, two Slippery Rock female athletes earned All-America honors at the National Championships, with
Jen Harpp placing second in the 5,000-meter run and
Whitney Hendershot placing sixth in the high jump. Both Harpp and Hendershot have returned this season.
