Terrece Draper won the triple jump to lead The Rock men on the second day of the Golden Flash Gala at Kent State
Final Results
KENT, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men’s indoor track and field team wrapped up its 2009-10 season opener at the Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State University Saturday.
The top performance of the day came from
Terrece Draper, who won the triple jump with a leap of 13.91-meters (45-07.75).
Cameron Daugherty added to the excellent field event performances with a third-place finish in the pole vault. Daugherty cleared 4.70-meters (15-05).
The Rock got a set of outstanding performances from its middle distance runners in the 800-meter run.
Phil Rector led the way with a fifth-place finish in the event with a time of 1:54.67. Freshman
Kevin Jewel placed seventh in 1:55.29 and
Jason Jamieson finished 11th in 1:56.34.
Kris Stalma led the sprinters and hurdlers with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 8.52 seconds. Rock graduate assistant
Shayne Cooper competed as an unattached athlete and placed fifth in 8.35 seconds.
Brady Wert rounded out the top individual performances with an eighth-place finish in the heptathlon. Wert finished the seven-event competition with a final score of 4,694 points, just five points shy of the school record set by Mike Rose last season.
The Rock closed the meet with a 10th-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Rector and Jamieson were joined by newcomers
Mason McLaughlin and
Ryan McGeehan to finish with a time of 3:26.01.
The Rock will break now for the holiday season and will return to competition with a home meet on Jan. 22 at Morrow Field House.
