Rock men sit fourth after day one at PSAC Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University men’s indoor track and field team sits in fourth-place after the first day of competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships. Competition will conclude on Sunday, March 1.

The Rock men, the defending PSAC Champions, posted 34 points on the first day of competition. Shippensburg leads with 49 points, followed by Lock Haven with 44 and East Stroudsburg with 40. Indiana (Pa.) rounds out the top-five with 28 points.

The top finisher for The Rock men was James Schneider, who placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.74 meters (15-06.50). He was joined by Cameron Daugherty, who placed fourth with a height of 4.59 meters (15-00.75).

Garrett Grey and Chris Warning picked up the only other individual points on day one, both placing in the weight throw. Grey finished fifth with a throw of 16.24 meters (53-03.50), followed by Warning in sixth with a toss of 15.95 meters (52-04.00).

The remainder of SRU’s opening day points came from the 4x800-meter and distance medley relay teams.

Brian Pratt, Dan Henry, Jason Jamieson and Phil Rector paired to place second in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:56.90.

The distance medley relay team comprised of Jason Leonard, David Allen, Mark Morelli and Jeff Weiss placed third with a time of 10:23.86.

Brady Wert and Mike Rose both had solid first days in the heptathlon, with Wert leading overall after four events with a score of 2,693 points. Rose sits third with a score of 2,526 points. The final three events of the heptathlon will be contested on Sunday.

Joeri Moerman led the sprinters through the qualifying rounds, earning a spot in the finals of both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Moerman posted the eighth-best time in the 200m at 22.61 seconds and the third-best time in the 400m prelims at 49.64 seconds.

Moerman will be joined by Nate Shadeck in the finals of the 400m after Shadeck posted the sixth-best qualifying time in the event (50.21).

Kris Stalma rounded out the qualifiers for The Rock, earning a trip to the finals in the 55-meter dash with the fourth-best time in the prelims (7.79).

Finals for all track events will be run on Sunday, along with the remaining field events and the conclusion of the heptathlon.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday and conclude at approximately 3 p.m.
