Halls sets record in Rock loss at #7 Gannon

Amy Halls scored two goals to bring her season total to 48, breaking the previous SRU record for goals in a season. The seventh-ranked Golden Knights won the game, 22-3.

ERIE, Pa.
– Freshman Amy Halls set the Slippery Rock University single-season scoring record Thursday night in a 22-3 loss against #7 Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division lacrosse action.

Halls scored two goals, one in each period, to bring her season total to 48 with two games to play. She breaks the previous record of 47 goals that was set by April Ennis in 1990.

Brandi Otting scored The Rock's third goal and also picked up four ground balls and one draw control. Katie Roof finished the game with team-highs of five ground balls and three draw controls.

Halls scored at the 24:04 mark in the first period to tie the game, 1-1, before Gannon closed the half with 14 goals to take a 15-2 advantage into halftime.

The Golden Knights finished with advantages of 43-11 in total shots, 35-9 in shots on goal, 23-18 in ground balls and 19-8 in draw controls.

With the win, Gannon sweeps the season series between the two teams, having picked up a 22-12 decision at Slippery Rock March 26. The Rock drops to 4-11 overall and 0-7 in the PSAC-West. The Golden Knights improve to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Slippery Rock will host its final home game of the season Saturday when Wilmington University travels to Thompson Stadium for a 1 p.m. first draw. The Rock will close the 2009 season Wednesday, April 22, with a 7 p.m. match at Indiana (Pa.).
