#29 Rock drops 5-3 decision to Bloomsburg in PSAC semifinals

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Hosting Bloomsburg handed the 29th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's tennis team a 5-3 setback Friday in semifinal action of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.
The loss, only the fourth sustained by SRU in 23 matches this season, dropped The Rock into Saturday's 11:30 a.m. third-place match against Kutztown, a 5-0 loser to California (Pa.) in the other semifinal match.
The Rock will then await word on its bid to participate in and host one of the two NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournaments.
SRU was ranked second behind California in this week's regional poll, while Bloomsburg was ranked fourth.
Junior Laura Handy played a part in two of The Rock's wins Friday. She and No. 2 doubles partner Chelsea Gibson won their match by an 8-1 score. Handy then took the No. 2 singles match by 6-1, 6-3 scores.
The other Rock point came via a 6-3, 6-4 win by senior Lara Rizzi in the No. 5 singles match.
