Rock knocks off Kutztown, 5-1, to finish third in PSAC Championships

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The 29th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's tennis team won all three doubles matches Saturday en route to a 5-1 win over Kutztown in the third-place match of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Bloomsburg University.
Senior Lara Rizzi and junior Casey Runyan led the winning effort as they combined efforts to win their No. 3 doubles match by an 8-6 score and then each won their singles match.
Rizzi claimed the No. 5 singles match by 6-1, 6-0 scores, while Runyan reigned by 6-1, 6-2 scores in the No. 6 singles match.
The Rock's No. 1 doubles team of senior Kayla Blackburn and junior Jessica Hilborn won their match by an 8-6 score and the No. 2 tandem of junior Laura Handy and sophomore Chelsea Gibson won by an 8-2 score.
Saturday's win was SRU's 20th in 24 matches this season and further solidified the Green and White's bid for a berth in NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional competition.
The Rock will close out its regular-season schedule May 5 with a home match vs. neighboring Grove City College.
