LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University freshman
Amy Halls and sophomore
Brianne Dishong have been named to first team All-Conference lacrosse honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Halls, who was also a finalist for the PSAC-West Freshman of the Year honor, represents The Rock as an attacker on the first team, while Dishong earns the honor as a defender.
Halls made an immediate impact on the team in her freshman campaign, leading the squad in scoring and setting a new SRU record for single-season goals. She finished with 57 goals and nine assists for 66 points on the season. She also added 27 draw controls, 24 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.
Halls finished the season ranked seventh in the PSAC in goals scored and in goals per game (3.35) and eighth in shots per game (6.65).
Dishong led The Rock defense all season long and ranked among the leaders in the PSAC in defensive statistics. She finished the season with team-highs of 42 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. Dishong also added three assists and three draw controls.
Halls and Dishong are the first players to be named to the All-Conference team since lacrosse was reinstated as a varsity sport at Slippery Rock in 2007.
The Rock finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 5-12 after going winless during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Lock Haven, which defeated defending national champion West Chester for the PSAC title this season, swept the major awards for the Western Division. Leigh Titus was named the Player of the Year, with Kayleigh Johnson being awarded the Freshman of the Year honor. Kristen Selvage was named the Coach of the Year.
