Rock 4x400m relay earns All-America honors, sets SRU record

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University women’s 4x400-meter relay team of
Tiffany Tedesco,
Amanda Seigworth,
Allison Smith and
Lacey Cochran broke the school record and earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday night at San Angelo State University.
The Rock foursome tied the SRU record of 3:44.94 during the preliminary round Friday and broke the record in the finals, finishing seventh in a time of 3:44.83. The seventh-place finish secures All-America honors for all four athletes and marks the first time since 1982 that a Slippery Rock women’s relay team has earned All-America honors during the outdoor season.
Also competing for The Rock Saturday were
Whitney Hendershot and
Laura Mucho, competing in individual events.
Hendershot finished 11th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.68 meters (5-06) and Mucho did not finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The National Championship meet concluded The Rock’s 2009 season.
