Four Rock men earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors
Joeri Moerman, Mike Rose, James Schneider and Jeff Weiss were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic team
NEW ORLEANS – Four members of the Slippery Rock University men’s track and field team have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s All-Academic team.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must carry above a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must post an NCAA provisional or automatic qualifying performance in their event.

Representing The Rock men’s team are Joeri Moerman, Mike Rose, James Schneider and Jeff Weiss.

Moerman, a senior from the Netherlands, reached the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the 400-meter run during the outdoor season. The highlight of Moerman’s year came when he broke the SRU record in the 400m during the outdoor campaign.

Rose, a senior from Houston, Pa., reached the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the heptathlon during the indoor season. Rose’s top mark in the seven-event competition established a new SRU record.

Schneider, a senior from New Wilmington, Pa., reached the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault during the outdoor season.

Weiss, a senior from Avella, Pa., closed his collegiate career as one of the most highly decorated SRU track and field athletes of all time. A four-time All-American in cross country, Weiss closed his career by earning his third All-America honors in the 10,000-meter run outdoors. Weiss also competed in the 5,000-meter run at outdoor nationals and the mile run at the indoor national championships. He claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship in the 3,000-meter run during the indoor season and leaves the program with three individual school records.

The Rock’s four male representatives on the All-Academic team join six female counterparts that were previously honored. Lacey Cochran, Laura Mucho, Jenn Harpp, Amanda Seigworth, Allison Smith and Tiffany Tedesco were all named to the USTFCCCA women’s All-Academic team.

Slippery Rock’s 10 total members on the USTFCCCA All-Academic men’s and women’s teams are the most of any school in the PSAC. Shippensburg ranked second with nine total honorees, eight female and one male.
