SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --
The Slippery Rock University Athletic Department will sponsor its third annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day event Saturday, Feb. 13, in Morrow Field House.

The event, which will run from 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m., is designed to afford girls ages 5-12 the opportunity to learn and participate in a variety of sports activities under the direction of SRU student-athletes and coaches. The event is free and includes lunch for all participants.

Participants will have the opportunity to have fun playing basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. They will also receive free admission to The Rock basketball doubleheader vs. Edinboro, which starts at 1 p.m. with the women's game.

This year's National Girls and Women in Sports Day event coincides with SRU's annual "Pink Zone" event to enhance breast cancer awareness. Participants are asked to wear pink while cheering on The Rock women's basketball team.

Free pizza will be served at noon to all National Girls and Women in Sports Day participants, but girls may also bring their own lunches or purchase one at the concession stand.

Early registration is strongly advised. The National Girls and Women in Sports Day event will be limited to the first 80 girls to register, so on-site registration may not be available.
