SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team, in conjunction with the Slippery Rock Area Parks & Recreation Department and the Slippery Rock Area School District, helped to raise $2,000 for Legacy for Life by putting on a 5k race last weekend.
The event was May 1 at Slippery Rock Community Park and attracted more than 100 runners.
"It was a great success to have that many runners show up for a first-time race," said Rock head women's soccer coach
Noreen Herlihy. "We were very proud to have our team assisting in this great cause."
Former Rock men's soccer standout and current graduate assistant Pat Cormac won the overall race.
"I wasn't running to win the race, but rather to help the women's soccer team support this great local organization," said Cormac.
Legacy for Life is a project of the Butler Visiting Nurses Association that will result in the opening this spring of an inpatient hospice facility on Benbrook Drive in Butler.
