Green defeats White in 2010 Spring Game

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Redshirt freshman Kellen O'Neill passed for 147 yards and one touchdown Friday night to lead his Green team to a 23-17 win over the White in the 2010 Slippery Rock University Football Spring Game on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

O'Neill completed 13 of 18 passes and also rushed for 12 yards on two carries.

Senior Jermale Cromerdie caught five passes for 81 yards and a TD to lead the winning team's receiving corp, while redshirt freshman Andrew O'Saben rushed for 36 yards on 11 carries and scored one TD to pace the Green ground attack.

Junior wide receiver Devin Goda caught a game-high seven passes for 104 yards and one TD to lead the White attack. Mike Bongivengo, a transfer from Seton Hill University, completed five of seven passes for 105 yards and one TD, but was intercepted twice, and Kirk Ramsey was 7-of-12 for 101 yards in a backup role.

Ramsey also spelled O'Neill as the Green QB in the second half and completed four of five passes for 52 yards and one TD for the winning team.

Defensively, junior linebacker Zach Sheridan recorded a game-high 7.5 tackles for the White team, while sophomore Marquis Knight had seven tackles and one interception for the Green. Eric Cunningham had four tackles and 2.5 sacks and junior defensive back Rich Burnworth, a converted wide receiver, made 3.5 tackles for the White. Junior defensive linemen Andrew Hanchulak and Quintin Johnson had 3.5 tackles and two sacks, respectively, for the Green defense.

The Rock officially opens its 2010 season Thursday, Sept. 2, with a 7 p.m. home game at Thompson Stadium against Merrimack College of Massachusetts.

SRU will play six home games in 2010.
