Ex-Steeler named as Rock's O-line coach

Chris Conrad joins the SRU staff after serving five seasons as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon University

Chris Conrad
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Chris Conrad was recently named as offensive line coach at Slippery Rock University.

“We are extremely happy to be able to add a coach with Chris' background to our staff,” Rock Head Football Coach George Mihalik said. “He brings tremendous expertise and credibility to the position and will be a great role model for our young men.”

Conrad joined The Rock staff as a part-time coach after serving three seasons as offensive tackles and tight ends coach at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Prior to that, he served eight seasons as offensive and defensive line coach at Shaler Area High School. He also served five seasons as the throwing coach for the Titans' track and field teams.

Prior to entering the coaching profession, Conrad was a third-round pick (66th overall) of the Steelers in the 1998 NFL draft. A 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle, he played in 17 games (four starts) in two seasons with the Black and Gold before a neck injury early in 2000 preseason workouts ended his NFL career.

A native of Fullerton, California, Conrad attended Fresno State University, where he was a four-year letter winner as an offensive lineman. He earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honors in his senior season.

The owner of Steel City Mobile Detail, a mobile auto detailing company in Wexford, Conrad and his wife, Stephanie, have one child, Michael, and reside in Wexford.

Conrad succeeds Joe Walton, who stepped down last May after serving 25 seasons as The Rock's offensive line coach.
