SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Stacey Herzog has been named the assistant coach for the Slippery Rock University softball program, head coach Stacey Rice announced Friday.
 
"We're excited to bring Stacey on to the staff as a full-time assistant," said Rice. "Her experience both as a student-athlete, volunteer assistant and graduate assistant will assure a smooth transition. Her expertise and passion in strength and conditioning, outfield and hitting will be a strong asset to our program."
 
Herzog is the new full-time assistant following a year as volunteer assistant, and another as team's graduate assistant.
 
Prior to joining the staff, Herzog finished a distinguished three-year playing career at The Rock. She hit .281 (59-for-210) with eight home runs and 50 RBI. Her .725 career slugging percentage ranks ninth in program history. She has also been an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection, a PSAC Softball Champion Scholar, a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a three-time PSAC Scholar Athlete.
 
Herzog earned her bachelor's degree at Slippery Rock in health and physical education in 2016 and is currently pursuing her master's degree of criminal justice at The Rock.
 
She will continue to assist Rice in leading a program that is coming off one of its best regular seasons in a decade. During the 2018 campaign, SRU went 24-19 overall and a 11-9 in league play, narrowly missing the conference tournament. The team's 24 total victories were the most by a Rock softball team since 2008 when the team won 27 contests.
